ABOUT THE TEACHER:  Ilis Geronimo is a ceramicist that primarily uses wheel-throwing and coil-building techniques. The majority of her work consists of unglazed stoneware plant pots. The forms are inspired by Central American, Classical Greek and Roman ceramics. Her focus on pottery comes from an interest in improving local ecology, and encouraging people with outdoor space to include plants and create habitat. Her work has been featured in Architectural Digest, Etra, Akila and more.

CLASS DETAILS: In this 4-week course, students will have the opportunity to learn how to coil build a series of larger ceramic planters guided by Ilis. Participants will learn how to build large scale forms and volume by stacking and smoothing clay coils, with guidance on shaping, proportion, and carving surface details. This class offers the opportunity to create a unique large planter.

To accommodate building, drying, and firing time, this course includes 24 hour studio access.
