CLASS DETAILS: In this 4-week course, guests will have the opportunity to learn advanced wheel throwing techniques - suited for ceramicists who are already proficient with basic wheel throwing. Participants must know how to center at least 3 pounds of clay. We will learn how to throw off the hump, pull taller walls, and controlling complicated shapes.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Ian Wolterstorff is an Altadena-based ceramic artist with five years of experience teaching wheel-throwing. His instructional philosophy centers on building technical skills through the pursuit of ambitious creative goals. In his classroom, students are encouraged to value process, learn from failure, and celebrate growth. Outside the studio, Ian’s own sculptural and functional ceramics are carried in select design boutiques and retail spaces throughout Los Angeles and the Ventura/Ojai area.
**To accommodate drying and firing time, this course includes 4 weeks of studio access. Due to the scale of work being made this is a small 8 person class.
