Wheel Throwing 101
Beginning Wheel Throwing
Service Description
Ages 12+ What is Wheel Throwing 101? In this 2-hour one time group pottery class, students will learn the basics of wheel throwing including centering, pulling the walls, and fundamental skills to make a functional piece with guided hands-on instruction. No experience is required. All materials and equipment are included with this class. After you’ve made your piece, you’ll choose the glaze option (black, brown, or white) for the piece you made. Where does my piece go after class? After class, your creations are to dry for a week and then will go through two rounds of firings. Once the clay is dry enough, it will be placed in the kiln for 48 hours for the first firing then unloaded, glazed, and reloaded into the kiln for the second firing where it will fully vitrify at 2167°F (Yes that’s hotter than lava!). Once the kiln cools, your piece is unloaded, packaged, and ready for pick up. This process will take 6 weeks. We will email you when your piece is ready for pick up. If you do decide to make a functional piece, please note that all of our glazes and clay bodies are food safe : ) Gratuity is included for all teachers. What should I wear to class? Although messy, the clay used in class will not stain your clothing. However, we do recommend wearing comfortable apparel. Should I bring anything? Just yourself. All materials and tools are included. If interested in more long-term classes please see our monthly courses. Please Note: Pieces take 6 weeks to fire.
