Kids Summer Classes
Kids & Clay
Summer Sessions

In these after-school, play-focused classes, kids are invited to explore the interplay of clay, found materials, drawing, and movement. Kids will draft their ideas on paper and integrate found materials such as shells or rocks to leave impressions in their clay forms. Making ceramic instruments and sounds. Or sometimes engaging in portraiture. This is a completely experimental, play-based class where kids can indulge in creative freedom in a monitored environment.

Beginner Wheel Throwing

In this 2-hour one time group pottery class, students will learn the basics of wheel throwing including centering, pulling the walls, and fundamental skills to make a functional piece with guided hands-on instruction. No experience is required. All materials and equipment are included with this class. 

2025 June Wheel Course

In this four week course students will learn steps and techniques on how to create a comprehensive body of work on the wheel. Practice hours outside of class time is included. Students will go over centering, pulling techniques, along with trimming and glaze application. All equipment, tools, and glaze materials are included in this course. No experience is required.

Furniture course

In this six week course guests will have the opportunity to learn how to build a series of larger structures. Participants will be able to concept, draft, and construct their ideas for ceramic furniture. Tables, stools, lamps, and more* are all examples of furniture types that are well suited to ceramic practices.

Beginner Coil Building

In this one time class students will have the opportunity to coil build a vessel, which can be used as a vase or to hold other objects or forms. This particular technique has been used for thousands of years throughout history. This class is great for those who are eventually looking to build larger more abstract forms. All clay, glaze materials, and tools are included. No experience is required for this class.

A wheel throwing session is centered on trial and error, experimentation and chance. Previous ceramic experience is a must! Similar to practicing a song on an instrument over and over again, this session is meant for wheel-throwing practice; learning from past failures, and learning to grow amongst your peers and teachers.
